THERMAL EXPANSION VALVES FROM NISSENS

PROPER SETTING FOR OPERATION STABILITY

PRECISE & OPTIMAL OPERATION

PERFECTLY TIGHT, CLEAN AND FITTING

COMPREHENSIVE TESTS

CRITICALLY IMPORTANT COMPONENT

Our valve's output pressure and opening characteristics are thoroughly tested and appropriately adjusted to ensure the valve's stable and appropriate function within the common range of the refrigerant temperatures and pressures that occur during the AC cycle.

SAFE & RELIABLE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

Advanced performance tests have proven, Nissens Expansion Valve is a safe, perfectly finished product designed to maintain the required refrigerant parameters (superheat), and thus the AC system's optimal thermal performance and proper balance. Furthermore, it ensures safe operation and long life span of the AC compressor, preventing it from slugging or failures related to lubrication and overheating.

TXV Sensing Element's Behavior Test, Pressure Output vs Temperature

A back-to-back test of sensing element's behavior was performed to build comparison of the outlet pressure performance generated by opening set points of various TXV brands. Nissens' item number #999222 was used for the test, along with the OE and other IAM equivalents.

TXV.png

bolder lines.pngNissens TXV's opening behavior is based on a proper sensing element charge, and thus an appropriate set-point configuration that matches the OE unit and the system-specific requirements for the refrigerant parameters.

arrows and caution signs.pngSignificant deviations in the sensing element's behavior, and thus opening setting of the other tested TXV brands. The other tested valves' setting does not follow the OE valve's characteristics across various temperatures and considerably differs in the critical performance range (i.e. below 10°C).

The notable, large deviations from the OE pattern may lead to a significant reduction of the system thermal efficiency, and thus provoke severe failures of the AC compressor (e.g. slugging, lubricant dilution, overheating). Furthermore, the large deviations and different from OE behavior, reveal an improper charge technology applied for the sensing element at the other brand's valves.

Precision in every detail

Whenever developing a new product, Nissens Automotive is committed to provide the best. In the test phase, we secure correct adjustment and behavior of the valve to avoid critical failures in the AC system.

THERMAL EXPANSION VALVE COMPONENT FUNDAMENTALS

ROLE & OPERATION

The Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) is one of the major control components of the AC loop. It's a precise metering device that controls the amount of refrigerant released into the evaporator.

The TXV separates the high-pressure and low-pressure sides of the AC loop. It is preset to maintain the superheat condition within the evaporator and, by this, to ensure the system's most optimal operation and output matching the needs for cold air production.

LOCATION IN THE VEHICLE
Majority of valves are placed

 at the evaporator couplings

and within the vehicle's HVAC

module area.

TXV BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Modulates refrigerant flow into evaporator in regards to heat load on the system
  • Maintains the system's optimal thermal output (cold air production)
  • Prevents compressor from the refrigerant liquid form intake (slugging)
  • Contributes to the compressor's proper lubrication by ensuring sufficient refrigerant flow (thus oil traveling inside the loop)

THERMAL EXPANSION VALVE COMPONENT OPERATION

1. HIGH-PRESSURE LIQUID

2. SENSING & RESPONDING

3. RESTRICTING THE FLOW

4.  THE LOW-PRESSURE LIQUID AND VAPOR

High-pressure liquid refrigerant enters the valve. The TXV, by varying the size of the orifice through which the refrigerant flows, reduces the refrigerant pressure and controls its mass rate supplied to the evaporator.

TXV IMPORTANCE TO THE AC COMPRESSOR INSTALLATION

BACKGROUND

Severe AC compressor failures that qualify the component to be replaced require a complete service procedure for the AC system prior to the new part fitting. This should include the system flushing as well as replacement of other devices: the condenser (majority cannot be flushed) and, depending on application, the TXV / orifice tube.

PROBLEM

Impurities that caused the compressor seizure or that had appeared due to the failure - e.g. metal/Teflon splinters, etc., will often concentrate in the system's narrow passages.

Disregarding the TXV replacement during the AC compressor installation procedure may cause the newly installed compressor's failure, and generate excessive service costs with a second repair.

KEEP IN MIND! A faulty, clogged or improperly metering TXV will quickly affect the AC system's proper operation, worsen its output and expose the AC compressor to a premature failure.

ALWAYS REPLACE THE TXV during an AC compressor replacement, including a system flushing procedure. Replace the valve if the system is diagnosed with severe contamination and after a compressor breakdown caused by seizure/overheating.

Importance of the TXV replacement

Realizing the likelihood of a return repair after a newly installed AC compressor failure, economically, it is a serious risk to take when saving on the TXV replacement. Read our case study with cost calculation on the TXV replacement along with the AC Compressor installation.
